Très intéressante médaille ancienne, avec une patine brune et une surface un peu hétérogène. De l’usure sur les reliefs

Hieronymus (ou Jérôme), né vers 350-360 était un évêque de Vienne, de mai à juillet 421. Issu d'une famille patricienne originaire de l'Ouest des Gaules, Hieronymus a probablement effectué une carrière militaire dans l'armée impériale, mais celle-ci a été très modeste. On sait seulement qu'il était centurion dans l'armée romaine lors de la bataille d'Andrinople contre les Ostrogoths en 378. À la suite de cette défaite romaine, il semble avoir cessé sa carrière militaire pour se tourner vers une vie d'ermite, mais il n'existe aucune certitude pour la période allant de 378 à 421.
En 421, après la mort de l'évêque Simplice, il est élu pour lui succéder et est devenu le quatorzième évêque de Vienne. Hieronymus n'a pas eu le temps de laisser une empreinte significative dans l'histoire, puisqu'il tombe malade peu après être devenu évêque et est mort en juillet 421, à peine deux mois après son élection..
Old font. Hieronymus (or Jerome), born around 350-360, was Bishop of Vienne from May to July 421. Born into a patrician family from western Gaul, Hieronymus probably had a military career in the imperial army, but it was very modest. We only know that he was a centurion in the Roman army at the Battle of Adrianople against the Ostrogoths in 378. Following this Roman defeat, he seems to have abandoned his military career to turn to the life of a hermit, but there is no certainty for the period from 378 to 421. In 421, after the death of Bishop Simplicius, he was elected to succeed him and became the fourteenth Bishop of Vienne. Hieronymus did not have time to leave a significant mark on history, as he fell ill shortly after becoming bishop and died in July 421, barely two months after his election.
