Reverse legend : RESTITV-TOR REIP// CONSPA.
Reverse description : L'empereur debout de face tourné à droite, diadémé, vêtu militairement, tenant un étendard de la main droite et un globe nicéphore de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Restitutor Rei Publicæ”, (Le restaurateur du bien public).

Commentary


Poids lourd. Rubans de type 3. Fibule d’attache avec un cabochon gemmé. Ptéryges à peine visibles sous le paludamentum.

Valentinian, proclaimed on February 25, 364, joined his brother Valens on August 24 of the same year. They share the Empire, Valentinian reserving the West. In 367, the Emperor named Augustus his son Gratian. Valentinian died on November 17, 375, leaving the West in great danger.
