Obverse description : Buste de Valentinien II diadémé à droite, avec cuirasse et paludamentum, vu de trois quarts en avant (A') ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Valentinianus Iunior Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Valentinien le jeune pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse description : L'empereur en habit militaire, debout à gauche, tenant un globe nicéphore de la main gauche et relevant de la main droite une femme tourelée, agenouillée.
Reverse translation : “Reparatio Reipublicae”, (Le Rétablissement du bien public).

Commentary


Poids léger. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Les ptéryges ne sont pas visibles sur cet exemplaire. Fibule ronde sur le paludamentum avec trois pendants.

Valentinian II, son of Valentinian I, was proclaimed august at the age of four. After being driven out of Italy by Magnus Maximus in 387, he was restored to the throne by Theodosius I before being assassinated in 392 by Arbogast, who preferred Eugene to him..
