Commentary


La bataille de Valmy également appelée bataille ou affaire du camp de la Lune est la première victoire décisive de l'armée française pendant les guerres de la Révolution ayant suivi le renversement de la monarchie des Bourbons. Elle eut lieu le 20 septembre 1792 lorsqu'une armée prussienne commandée par le duc de Brunswick essaya de marcher sur Paris. Les généraux François-Christophe Kellermann et Charles-François Dumouriez réussirent à stopper l'avance prussienne près du village de Valmy situé à l'est de Paris, en Champagne-Ardenne.
The Battle of Valmy, also known as the Battle or Affair of Camp de la Lune, was the first decisive victory of the French army during the Revolutionary Wars following the overthrow of the Bourbon monarchy. It took place on September 20, 1792, when a Prussian army commanded by the Duke of Brunswick attempted to march on Paris. Generals François-Christophe Kellermann and Charles-François Dumouriez succeeded in halting the Prussian advance near the village of Valmy, located east of Paris in Champagne-Ardenne.
