Flan large, assez mince et un peu irrégulier au niveau de la tranche. Droit et revers légèrement décentrés, avec une faiblesse de frappe à droite du revers. Patine de collection ancienne, rougeâtre par endroits

Reverse description : Croix sur un globe, posé sur la ligne d’exergue, V et C de chaque côté du pied de la croix ; le globe accosté de V (sous l’M) et II sous l’A.

Commentary

Cette série regroupe de nombreuses variantes de légende. J. Lafaurie les date de 585-590, G. Depeyrot de 585-620 et Riogold de 610... Au total, quinze exemplaires ont été étudiés dans le Moneta et aucun ne présente exactement les mêmes légendes que notre triens.

Maurice succeeded his father-in-law Tiberius II. After great victories over the Sassanids, he suffered many setbacks in the Balkans and could not prevent the installation of the Slavs and Avars. A military plot overthrew him in 602. He was assassinated while trying to take refuge with Chosroes II..
