Commentary


Ce type fut frappé entre 1908 et 1929 d’après un modèle réalisé par le sculpteur Bela Lyons Pratt , élève de Saint-Gaudens.
A l’époque, cette frappe incuse fut peu appréciée car soupçonnée de pouvoir véhiculer des microbes et germes divers. De ce fait, peu d’exemplaires de qualité exceptionnelle ont été conservés. L’oeuvre de Pratt fut ultérieurement reconnue comme une renaissance de la frappe monétaire du XXe siècle.
Seuls deux ateliers ont frappé ce type : Philadelphie, l’atelier directeur (sans lettre d’atelier) et Denver (lettte D)..
