Ho Chi Minh (1890-1969) founded the Viet Minh in 1941. On 22 August 1945 his militia take Hanoi and massacred Europeans. August 25, Emperor Bao Dai (1932-1945) abdicated and 2 September 1945, the Democratic Republic of Vietnam was proclaimed in Hanoi. March 6, 1946, Ho Chi Minh became president adheres to the French Union with Cambodia and Laos, but the refusal of France to give him the Cochin and the bombing of Haiphong November 24, 1946 put an end to negotiations: the war started December 19, 1946. It lasted eight years until 1954. Bao Dai was restored (1945-1955).
