Turons (Region Touraine)

(Second - first century BC)

The people of Turons installed on the Loire, has left his name in Tours and the Touraine. They are mentioned several times in Caesar's Commentaries. They seem to have gained importance after the demise of the empire in Arverne 121 BC The Turons furnished as Pictones eight thousand men for the army of relief which would generate Alesia. Their main oppidum seems to have been placed near Amboise site. Caesar (Bg. II, 35; VII, 4, 75, VIII, 46).
