Bronze sur un flan un peu court et légèrement décentré. Usure marquée ou frappe faible au droit alors que le revers est plus net et complet. Patine sombre

Obverse legend : ANÉPIGRAPHE.
Obverse description : Tête diadémée à droite, les cheveux longs tombant dans la nuque ; grènetis.
Reverse
Reverse legend : ARTOS.
Reverse description : Athlète nu courant à droite, tenant de la main droite une palme et de la gauche un caestus ; pentagramme à gauche.
Commentary
La représentation d’un personnage en pied est assez exceptionnelle sur des bronzes gaulois, mise à part l’abondante série au personnage courant des Bellovaques !
L'attribution aux Turons n’est peut-être pas satisfaisante, mais l’aire de répartition de ces bronzes, comme de tant d’autres attribués aux Carnutes, est localisée au sud de la Touraine...
Ce type est rare et cet exemplaire n’est que le sixième que nous proposons.
The representation of a full-length figure is quite exceptional on Gallic bronzes, apart from the abundant series with the running figure of the Bellovaci! The attribution to the Turons is perhaps not satisfactory, but the distribution area of these bronzes, like so many others attributed to the Carnutes, is located in the south of Touraine... This type is rare and this example is only the sixth that we are offering

Historical background
TURONES (Area of Touraine)
(2nd - 1st century BC)
The people of the Turons, settled on the Loire, left their name to Tours and Touraine. They are quoted several times in Caesar's Commentaries. They seem to have grown in importance after the disappearance of the Arverne empire in 121 BC. Like the Pictons, the Turons provided eight thousand men for the relief army which was to release Alesia. Their main oppidum seems to have been placed near the site of Amboise. Caesar (BG. II, 35; VII, 4, 75; VIII, 46).
