TURKEY - SULTAN ABDULAZIZ

(AH 1277-1293/ 1861-1876)

Abdoul Aziz (1830-1875) is the son of Mahmoud II (1808-1839) and the half-brother of Abdoul Meijid I (1839-1861) whom he succeeded in 1861. Under his reign, the Young Turks movement created in 1868. The University of Constantinople was inaugurated in 1869 and the first Vienna-Constantinople railway line was created in 1870. The monarch had to face several revolts in the Balkans, in Bulgaria and in Bosnia and Herzegovina. Abdoul Aziz abdicated on May 30, 1876 and was assassinated on June 5..
