Commentary

Diamètre du médaillon : 40 mm de l’étoile : 86 mm.
Poinçon tête de nègre sur l’épingle de fermeture.
Le poinçon était employé depuis le 18 juillet 1905 par le Bureau de contrôle de Tunis (Tunisie).
Au vue du poinçon utilisé, il est probable que la plaque soit de fabrication tunisienne.
Médaille conservée dans un écrin vert timbré des armes de Tunisie sur drapeaux et étendards en sautoir. L’intérieur est en feutrine noire et soie blanche timbré du nom de l’éditeur : ARTHUS BERTRAND PARIS.

Exemplaire avec des rayons ciselés à facette, le médaillon central porte des caractères arabes sur un fond d’émail vert.
Cette décoration avait été instituée en 1835 par Ahmad I ibn Mustafa, Bey de Tunis et réformé en 1857 par son successeur Muhammad II ibn al-Husayn.
Medallion diameter: 40 mm; star diameter: 86 mm. Black head hallmark on the clasp pin. This hallmark was used by the Tunis (Tunisia) Control Office from July 18, 1905. Given the hallmark used, it is likely that the medal is of Tunisian manufacture. The medal is kept in a green case stamped with the arms of Tunisia on crossed flags and standards. The interior is lined with black felt and white silk, stamped with the publisher's name: ARTHUS BERTRAND PARIS. This example features faceted, chiseled rays; the central medallion bears Arabic characters on a green enamel background. This decoration was instituted in 1835 by Ahmad I ibn Mustafa, Bey of Tunis, and reformed in 1857 by his successor, Muhammad II ibn al-Husayn.
