Commentary

This test, minted in the name of Bey Ahmed, is struck in zinc, unlike the circulating coins struck in cupro-nickel. The date in Arabic is 1350 AH, which corresponds to 1931. Because of the use of zinc instead of cupro-nickel, it can be assumed that this test was struck after the date indicated, probably in 1941 or 1942.

Historical background

TUNISIA - FRENCH PROTECTORATE

(1881-1956)

The French protectorate of Tunisia was established by the Treaty of Bardo of May 12, 1881. The political, economic and social structures of the country were transformed and the monetary system was modeled on that of France with the adoption of identical modules. The protectorate was finally abolished on March 20, 1956 after negotiations constituting the culmination of the Tunisian national movement..
