Raoul René Alphonse Bénard, né le 30 septembre 1881 à Elbeuf et mort en 1961 à Hendaye, est un graveur-médailleur français. Il est l'élève de Jules Chaplain. Il remporte le Prix de Rome en 1911 ainsi qu'une médaille d'argent au Salon des artistes français en 1922. Il est pensionnaire de la Villa Médicis de 1911 à 1920.
Il est le créateur des médailles des Jeux olympiques d'hiver de 1924 à Chamonix-Mont-Blanc ainsi que des médailles commémoratives des Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924 à Paris.
Les Jeux olympiques d'été de 1924, Jeux de la VIIIe olympiade de l'ère moderne, ont été célébrés à Paris, en France, du 4 mai au 27 juillet 1924. Pour ses adieux aux jeux, le baron Pierre de Coubertin milita en faveur de la capitale française, qui organisa ainsi ses deuxièmes jeux après ceux de 1900.
La devise olympique de Coubertin empruntée à l'abbé Henri Didon : « Citius, Altius, Fortius » (plus vite, plus haut, plus fort) est introduite à l'occasion de ces jeux, ainsi que le rituel de lever des trois drapeaux à la cérémonie de clôture.
En 1924, 44 nations et 3 089 athlètes (dont 135 femmes) prirent part à 126 épreuves dans 17 sports. Les athlètes les plus en vue de ces jeux furent les coureurs de fond finlandais à l'image de Paavo Nurmi ainsi que le nageur Johnny Weissmuller et l'escrimeur Roger Ducret..

The news of the capitulation of Sedan provokes the revolution of September 4, 1870 in Paris.
