Commentary
La maison de La Rochefoucauld est l'une des plus anciennes familles de la noblesse française subsistante, illustrée par l'auteur des Maximes de La Rochefoucauld, François VI. Leurs origines remontent aux seigneurs de La Roche, fief sis en Angoumois, actuel département de Charente. Attestés sous ce nom aux alentours du Xe siècle - XIe siècle (preuves officielles de noblesse : 1019), ils ont adopté celui de La Rochefoucauld, plus distinctif, au XIIIe siècle..
