Usure régulière de circulation sur les reliefs, notamment visible sur la poitrine de la République. Cette piastre a en outre subi un léger nettoyage ancien mais est recouverte d’une nouvelle patine aux reflets irisés

Obverse description : La République assise à gauche de trois quarts de face, radiée et drapée tenant un faisceau de licteur, appuyée sur un gouvernail et une ancre ; devant elle une rizière ; signé BARRE à l'exergue.

Paul Doumer (1857-1932) was appointed governor of Indochina in 1897. He undertook major works and created, in 1898, the French School in the Far East. He reorganized the following year the opium trade, which represented a third of the colony's income. Doumer remains in place until 1911. He is then replaced by Albert Sarraut.
