Chaînette de gala en argent doré (poinçon sur les aiguilles - losange et tête de sanglier) portant huit miniatures : Chevalier de la Légion d’honneur, Croix de guerre française 1914-1915, médaille commémorative interalliée de la Victoire, Grande Guerre 1914-1918 (poinçon tête de sanglier), Officier des Palmes Académiques (poinçon tête de sanglier), Chevalier de l’Ordre de Léopold (poinçon tête de sanglier), Chevalier de l’Ordre de l’Aigle Blanc (poinçon tête de sanglier), Officier de l’Ordre du Sauveur (poinçon tête de sanglier) et Mérite militaire, 4e classe en bronze.
Le poids inclut toutes les miniatures et la chaînette. Longueur jusqu’au bout des aiguilles : 163 mm.
La chaînette est conservée dans une boîte marron à feutrine écrue et soie blanche timbré FABRIQUE D’ORDRES / A. BACQUEVILLE / 5 Galerie Montpensier / PALAIS-ROYAL / PARIS.
Cet écrin fait partie de l’ensemble décerné à Charles Picard (1883-1965), professeur d’université et archéologue. Spécialiste de la Grèce antique, il sera directeur de l’École française d’Athènes dans les années 1920, professeur d’archéologie classique à la Faculté des lettres de Paris (1934-1955), il sera également directeur de l’Institut d’Art et d’Archéologie (1937-1961). Il sera élu membre de l'Académie des inscriptions et belles-lettres en 1932.
Il sera Commandeur de l’Ordre du Rédempteur (Grèce) et Commandeur de l’Ordre du Dannebrog (Danemark).

Gilded silver gala chain (hallmark on the hands - diamond and boar's head) bearing eight miniatures: Knight of the Legion of Honour, French War Cross 1914-1915, Interallied Commemorative Medal of Victory, Great War 1914-1918 (boar's head hallmark), Officer of the Academic Palms (boar's head hallmark), Knight of the Order of Leopold (boar's head hallmark), Knight of the Order of the White Eagle (boar's head hallmark), Officer of the Order of the Saviour (boar's head hallmark) and Military Merit, 4th class in bronze.
Weight includes all miniatures and chain. Length to the tip of the needles: 163 mm.
The chain is kept in a brown box with ecru felt and white silk stamped FABRIQUE D'ORDRES / A. BACQUEVILLE / 5 Galerie Montpensier / PALAIS-ROYAL / PARIS.
This case is part of the set awarded to Charles Picard (1883-1965), university professor and archaeologist. A specialist in ancient Greece, he was director of the French School of Athens in the 1920s, professor of classical archaeology at the Faculty of Letters in Paris (1934-1955), and director of the Institute of Art and Archaeology (1937-1961).. He was elected a member of the Academy of Inscriptions and Belles-Lettres in 1932..
He will be Commander of the Order of the Redeemer (Greece) and Commander of the Order of the Dannebrog (Denmark).

The news of the capitulation of Sedan provokes the revolution of September 4, 1870 in Paris. Proclaimed at the Hôtel de Ville, the Republic is endowed with a provisional government called the Government of National Defense. Threatened on the left by the insurrection of the Commune and on the right by the monarchists, the new regime had a difficult start.. Initially head of the executive power (February 1871), Thiers was responsible for reorganizing the country before choosing its form of government.. He became President of the Republic in August 1871 and, despite his action to liberate the territory, had to leave his post in March 1873 in the face of royalist opposition.. He is then replaced by Mac-Mahon favorable to the restoration of the monarchy but this one is not restored following the question of the flag. The law of the septennat was then put in place in November 1873 and then, in 1875, the fundamental laws were passed which served as the Constitution of the Third Republic.. Parliamentary system, it is characterized in particular by the clear preponderance of the legislative power on the executive power. Anticlerical, the Third Republic makes school free, secular and compulsory but continues the colonial policy for its economic, strategic and moral ambitions. Separation of Church and State was passed in 1905.. The idea of revenge on Germany and significant nationalism are at the heart of the Boulangist crisis, the Panama scandal or the Dreyfus affair of the years 1886-1899, while foreign policy is very active, particularly in Morocco and that the arms race develops. The First World War was expensive for France, which only recovered from 1920 or even 1928 for the coin with the "Poincaré" franc.. The crisis of 1929 is felt only from 1932 but lasts until 1939, a period during which ministerial instability is very important. Wavering in 1934, the Third Republic found a new unitary cement with anti-fascism which enabled the Popular Front to come to power in 1936.. But, paralyzed against Germany, France was then bogged down in a "phony war" and then suffered one of the greatest defeats in its history in June 1940.. Gathered in the National Assembly in Vichy on July 10, 1940, the Chambers, although elected in 1936, voted full powers to Pétain in a sort of collective suicide by 569 votes for, 80 votes against and 18 abstentions..
