TROAS - SIGEION
(4th century BC)
Sigea was located near a promontory at the entrance to the Hellespont. This place was said to have hosted the tomb of Achilles. Aeolian colony, it was often disputed between Athens and Mytilene. Sigea received Hippias after his departure from Athens. She joined the Delos League. Governed by Charès, an Athenian strategist, the latter received Alexander the Great in the city during his stay in 334 BC..
