Trajan was born September 18, 53 at Italica, near Seville in Spain, as his pupil Hadrian. It belongs to a family of settlers who settled in Spain. After a distinguished military career as the Flavians, he is consul in 91 and legate of Germania Superior when it was adopted by Nerva in 97 to succeed him. After the latter's death, he became august. His reign will be spent in numerous military campaigns against the Germans on the Rhine limes, which earned him the title of Germanicus and two Dacian wars against Decebalus ending with the annexation of Dacia. Trajan preparing a campaign against the Parthians, turbulent and powerful neighbors to the east. He left Rome for the East, established his headquarters at Antioch before invading the Parthian kingdom. He will go to Ctesiphon (Seleucia on the Tigris). At his death, August 8 117, the empire was at its peak and its greatest territorial extension.
