Cette obole est particulièrement. Celle qui est dessinée dans le Poey d'Avant semble provenir de la collection Benjamin Fillon. Une autre a été proposée dans la vente sur offres CGB, MONNAIES V, n° 679.
This obol is particularly noteworthy. The one depicted in Poey d'Avant appears to have come from the Benjamin Fillon collection. Another was offered in the CGB auction, MONNAIES V, lot 679.

Historical background

TOURAINE - CHINON

(10th century)

Louis IV was the son of Charles III the Simple and Edwige, daughter of Edward, King of Wessex. Born around 920, he ascended the throne on the death of Raoul in 936 and married in 939 Gerberge de Saxe, the daughter of Henri de Germanie, with whom he would have seven children, including Lothaire, king from 954 to 986. F.Dumas recalls that the coinage of Chinon with the head of Louis IV could date from around 944. These coins, imitating the royal type, were perhaps also struck at the beginning of the reign of Lothair (954-986).
