Historical background
THRACE - TRIERUS
(5th century BC)
Trierus is only known for its coins, which are very rare. It seems that this city was located on the northern coast of the Aegean between Chalkidiki and Maronea according to Imhoof-Blumer (NC.1873). E. Babelon does not know the exact location of the city, but recalls that the Thracian tribe of the Trieres is known to Stephen of Byzantium (Babelon, Treaty IV, p. 757-758) and that the location of the city should be investigated on the coasts of Chalkidiki or Epi-Thrace.
