Historical background

Thrace - Odessus

(III - Ist century BC)

Odessus milésiaque was a colony, located on the shores of the Euxine. It was an autonomous coinage from the late second century BC but most of his coins are tetradrachmas imitating those of Alexander the Great, who were beaten in the course of the third century and later during the reign of Mithridates VI (120-63 AC.). Coinage seems then interrupt to resume the imperial era.
