Très beaux portraits de haut relief et stylisés. Petite faiblesse de frappe au revers sur l’aigle et le dauphin qui semblent légèrement stylisés

Les monnaies divisionnaires sont beaucoup plus rares que les statères pour Istros. Notre exemplaire est très proche de celui de la collection Stancomb (WSC. 143, pl. VII.
Historical background
THRACE - ISTROS
(4th - 2nd century BC)
Istros, a Milesian colony, located equidistant from Callatis and the mouths of the Danube, is in Lower Moesia. The Greek name gave its Latin name to the Danube (Danuvius). The two juvenile heads, comparable to the Dioscuri (Gemini), represent the mouths of the Danube (Ister).
