Poids léger. Au droit dans certains ouvrages, la tête est décrite comme celle de Déméter. Ce type semble plus rare que ne le laissent supposer les ouvrages généraux. C’est la première fois que nous proposons un bronze de cette île de Thrace.

Historical background

THRACE - THRACIAN ISLANDS - IMBROS

(3rd - 2nd century BC)

Placed at the entrance of the Hellespont, the island of Imbros, inhabited by a tribe of Thracian origin, the Pelasgians was conquered by Darius I in 513 BC. Taken by the Athenian Miltiades around 500 BC. BC During the First Persian War, the island was again occupied by the Persians, but liberated after the battle of Mycales (49 AC.). It was part of the league of Delos until the fall of the Athenian Empire. It regained its freedom under Spartan hegemony before falling back under the control of Athens in 392 BC. It then passed into the hands of the Diadochi and the Epigones. After 168 BC and the Macedonian defeat, the Romans returned it to Athens.
