Obverse description : Buste diadémé, drapé et cuirassé de Théodose II à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A’a) ; diadème perlé.
Obverse translation : “Dominus Noster Theodosius Pius Felix Augustus”, (Notre seigneur Théodose pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse


Reverse legend : VICTORIA AVGVSTORVM/ -|*// CONOB.
Reverse description : Victoria (la Victoire) marchant à droite, tournant la tête à gauche, tenant un globe crucigère de la main gauche et une couronne de la main droite ; dans la champ à droite, étoile à huit rais.
Reverse translation : “Victoria Augustorum”, (La Victoire des augustes).

Commentary


Petit buste. Rubans de type 3 aux extrémités bouletées. Diadème terminé par un cabochon rond. Fibule d’attache gemmée avec pendants sur le paludamentum. Ptéryges fines. Cet exemplaire avait été attribué lors de sa vente en 1990 à Théodose Ier. Il faut bien le restituer à Théodose II.

THEODOSIUS II

(10/01/402-28/07/450) Flavius Theodosius

Theodosius II, born in 401, was proclaimed in august 402-9 months. After the death of his father Arcadius in 408, the two embassies of Ravenna and Constantinople were cold. Honorius would have liked to reunify the empire, and when he died 15 August 423, Jean, Secretary of the deceased emperor and new august, gets hit a very small number of solidi in the name of Theodosius II until November 20, the date when it is considered a usurper. Jean is finally captured early 425 in Ravenna, mutilated, and executed and install his cousin Theodosius II Valentinian III as august in Ravenna. Theodosius reigned for forty-eight years on the destinies of the East and died a victim of a hunting accident.
