Rama IX (born in 1926), or Bhumibol Adulyadet, succeeded his brother, who had been sympathetic to the Japanese. The Thai regime faced numerous political difficulties after the end of World War II, but economic and tourism development was significant, especially after 1970. He died in 2016.
