Tetricus I had been governor of Aquitaine before accession. After three years of reign, he was finally defeated by Aurelian near Chalons-sur-Marne in 274. Presented in the triumph of the latter, in Rome, he was pardoned by the new emperor, who ushered in the Senate and appointed him governor of Lucania.
