Commentary

En 1497, l’explorateur Jean Cabot prit possesion de Terre-Neuve au nom de la Couronne d’Angleterre. La colonie reçut le statut de dominion en 1907 en même temps que le Nouvelle-Zélande. Ce n’est qu’en 1949 suite à un référendum que Terre-Neuve-et-Labrador rejoignit la confédération canadienne..
In 1497, explorer John Cabot seized Newfoundland for the English Crown. The colony received dominion status in 1907, along with New Zealand. It was not until 1949, following a referendum, that Newfoundland and Labrador joined the Canadian Confederation.
