Exemplaire sur un flan ovale, légèrement éclaté à 6 heures au droit. Beau portrait de Tacite. Légèrement décentré au revers. Patine grise avec des reflets métalliques avec d’infimes concrétions vertes

Obverse description : Buste radié, drapé et cuirassé de Tacite à droite, vu de trois quarts en avant (A).
Obverse translation : “Imperator Cæsar Marcus Claudius Tacitus Pius Felix Augustus”, (L'empereur césar Marc Claude Tacite pieux heureux auguste).

Reverse legend : PROVI-D DEOR/ -|-// -.
Reverse description : Providentia (la Providence) debout à gauche, tenant un bâton de la main droite placée au-dessus d'un globe et une corne d'abondance de la main gauche.
Reverse translation : “Providentia Deorum”, (La Providence divine).

Avec son argenture superficielle. Rubans de type 3. Ptéryges fines. Émission sans marque. Légende ponctuée au droit. Même coin de droit que les exemplaires du Kunsthistorische de Vienne (collection Kolb) et de la collection du baron Louis Chaurand, (B. a et c,pl. IV) présentant tous les deux une cassure de coin au niveau du A de AVG. C’est la quatrième exemplaire recensé. Prendra le numéro 597d dans le supplément III du Bastien.
With its surface silvering. Type 3 ribbons. Fine pteryges. Issue without mark. Legend punctuated on the obverse. Same obverse die as the examples from the Kunsthistorische in Vienna (Kolb collection) and from the collection of Baron Louis Chaurand, (B. a and c, pl. IV) both presenting a die break at the level of the A of AVG. This is the fourth example recorded. Will take the number 597d in supplement III of Bastien

According to A. Chastagnol, the interregnum lasts nearly two months, between the end of September and the beginning of December 275 at most. The same researcher establishes that Tacitus was not elected by the Senate alone, but with the help of the army, during a diplomatic ballet between Rome and the Pannonian armies, so that Tacitus would accept the purple. The date of his elevation poses a problem and the traditional date of September 25 may be called into question if the interregnum lasts until December. At the beginning of 276, Tacitus left Rome to fight the Goths who had invaded Asia Minor. He was finally assassinated at Tyana in Cappadocia..
