Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan ovale, très légèrement décentré. Magnifique tête d’Antiochus VIII. Revers de style fin, bien venu à la frappe. Très jolie patine de médaillier avec des reflets dorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Commentary

Sur cet exemplaire, Antiochus n’a pas l’appendice nasal proéminent qui le caractérise (grypus). Au revers, Zeus Ouranios présente un double symbole (luni-solaire). Type daté frappé en 117-116 avant J.-C., an 196 de l’ère séleucide qui débute en 312 avant J.-C. après le retour de Seleucus Ier à Babylone. Même coin de droit que l’exemplaire de la LIVE Auction 1004 (bgr_364684).
On this example, Antiochus does not have his characteristic prominent nasal appendage (grypus). On the reverse, Zeus Ouranios has a double (lunisolar) symbol. Dated type struck in 117-116 BC, year 196 of the Seleucid era which began in 312 BC after the return of Seleucus I to Babylon. Same obverse die as the example from LIVE Auction 1004 (bgr_364684)
