Exemplaire sur un flan large ovale et irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Beau portrait d’Antiochus VII. Joli revers de frappe un peu faible. Patine grise superficielle

Très beau portrait expressif d’Antiochus VII. Malgré la rareté relative du type, nous n’avons pas relevé d’identité de coin pertinente.

SYRIA - Seleucid Kingdom - ANTIOCHUS VII Sidetes

(138-129 BC)

Antiochus VII was the second son of Demetrius I and brother Demetrius II Nicator. His nickname Sidetes comes from the city of Side, where he was raised. He married his sister Cleopatra, daughter of Ptolemy VI, after eliminating Tryphon who had murdered Antiochus VI Dionysus. During his reign, he had to struggle against the Jews were emancipated and refused to pay tribute, and against its powerful neighbors Parthians who had captured his brother, Demetrius II Nicator. Defeated by the Parthians of Phraates II (138-127 AC)., He died during a brawl, leaving a son, the future Antiochus IX Cyzicenus.
