Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan large, irrégulier, bien centré des deux côtés. Très beau portrait d’Antiochus VI. Joli revers, bien venu à la frappe, finement détaillé. Magnifique patine de collection ancienne avec des reflets mordorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

SYRIA - SELEUKID KINGDOM - ANTIOCHUS VI DIONYSUS

(145-142 BC)

Antiochus VI Dionysos, son of Alexander Balas and Cleopatra Thea, was proclaimed king by General Diodotus to fight against Demetrius II. Antiochus VI once assassinated by Diodotus in 142 BC, he had himself proclaimed king under the name of Tryphon (142-138 AC.). Demetrius II was captured in 140 BC by the Parthians and his brother Antiochus VII Sidetes succeeded him. Cleopatra Théa hastened to marry him.
