Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle sur un flan très large parfaitement centré des deux côtés avec les grènetis visibles. Portrait d’Héraklès de toute beauté, de haut relief bien venu à la frappe. Revers finement détaillé. Patine grise superficielle avec des reflets dorés. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Commentary


Monnayage posthume au nom de Séleucus. Ce type semble complètement inédit et non recensé. Manque aux ouvrages et articles de référence. De la plus grande rareté.

SYRIA - SELEUKID KINGDOM - ANTIOCHUS II THEOS

(261-246 BC)

Antiochus II succeeded his father, Antiochus I (280-261 BC). Under his reign Parthia, Bactria and the kingdom of Pergamon were definitively lost. The struggle against the Egypt of Ptolemy II Philadelphus (285-246 BC) was continuous and the control of Syria and Cilicia was often questioned. Antiochus II possibly perishes assassinated.
