Exemplaire de qualité exceptionnelle pour ce type monétaire sur un flan épais, bien centré des deux côtés. Très belle tête d’Alexandre Ier Bala. Revers de haut relief, finement détaillé. Magnifique patine vert noir. Conserve la plus grande partie de son brillant de frappe et de son coupant d’origine

Alexander I Balas, who claimed to be the son of Antiochus IV Epiphanes (175-164 AC.), succeeded Demetrius I Soter who was killed on the battlefield. He married Cleopatra Thea. With the help of Attalus II of Pergame (160-139 AC.) and Ptolemy VI Philometor (180-145 AC.), he managed to stay five years in Syria before being overthrown and massacred. Demetrius II succeeded him..
