SWITZERLAND - SWISS REPUBLIC

(1798-1803)

At the time of the Revolution triumph, French intervention in Switzerland is requested in 1798 by some citizens of this country to see abolish an ancient system where cities oppress campaigns (Basel) and where a district may impose a region ( Berne towards the Pays de Vaud). The Helvetic Republic, based on the French model, with a strong and cantons turned into mere administrative units central power in this direction. The French presence is perceived by the cantons formerly topics such as Birth of Freedom.
