Commentary


Un édit du 15 octobre 1794 substitue à l’ancien système duodécimal un système décimal. L’écu appelé “Genevoise” remplace le florin. Sont frappées des monnaies en argent de 1/2 Décime (5 Centimes), 1 Décime (10 Centimes) et 1 Genevoise. Ce système est abandonné dès 1795..
An edict of October 15, 1794, replaced the old duodecimal system with a decimal system. The ecu called “Genevoise” replaced the florin. Silver coins of 1/2 Décime (5 Centimes), 1 Décime (10 Centimes) and 1 Genevoise were minted. This system was abandoned in 1795.

SWITZERLAND - REPUBLIC OF GENEVA

Gegenna became Geneva on December 4, 1535. On November 24, 1535, the Council of Two Hundred decided to have coins minted in the name of the Republic of Geneva; the first sols de billon were minted in 1536. The Republic of Geneva was proclaimed on May 21, 1536 and the reformed religion became the state religion. Education becomes compulsory and free.
