Commentary

Le pont de Nydegg relie la vieille ville de Berne à la rive droit de l'Aar, à proximité de la fosse aux ours. Inauguré le 23 novembre 1844, le coût du projet total s’éleva à 1.650.000 Francs suisses. Les quatre maisonnettes situées aux extrémités de ce pont servaient à l'encaissement du droit de passage. Ce péage fut aboli le 1er mars 1853. The Nydegg Bridge connects the old town of Bern to the right bank of the Aare, near the bear pit. Inaugurated on November 23, 1844, the total cost of the project was 1,650,000 Swiss francs. The four small houses located at the ends of this bridge were used to collect tolls. This toll was abolished on March 1, 1853. Currently, one of these small houses is used by a restaurant.
