Historical background

SWITZERLAND - BISHOPRIC OF GENEVA

(1019-1359)

In 1124, the bishop of Geneva was confirmed in his rights as temporal sovereign over the city of Geneva. It is probably from this date that a new coinage appears in Geneva with the head of Saint Peter. The issue of these coins would have ceased only in 1359.
