Pendant deux siècles, la Suisse a exporté des mercenaires, considérés comme les meilleurs soldats d’Europe. La France en fit usage et doubla cet accord commercial d’un accord politique destiné à éviter que les Suisses ne fournissent des contingents à des ennemis de la FranceL'alliance de la France avec la Confédération Hélvétique ayant expiré depuis douze ans, on jugea à propos de la confirmer par un nouvel accord signé le 4 décembre 1663 à Soleure.
For two centuries, Switzerland exported mercenaries, considered the best soldiers in Europe. France made use of this and doubled this commercial agreement with a political agreement intended to prevent the Swiss from providing contingents to enemies of France. France's alliance with the Swiss Confederation having expired twelve years ago, it was deemed appropriate to confirm it with a new agreement signed on December 4, 1663 in Solothurn.
