SWITZERLAND - CANTON OF FRIBOURG

In 1477, the people of Friborg became independent before becoming members of the Helvetic Confederation in 1481. Friborg concluded a treaty of alliance with France called "Perpetual Peace". In the 16th century the canton of Friborg was the center of the Swiss Catholic reform.
