Obverse description : Tête stylisée à droite, la chevelure en une esse bouletée au-dessus de la tête ; deux esses rejointes devant le visage ; une oreille en croissant derrière la nuque ; bourrelet périphérique.

Reverse description : Un annelet pointé au centre du potin ; un sanglier enseigne à droite au-dessus, un torque pointé surmonté de cinq globules au-dessous et un annelet derrière le sanglier.

Commentary


Des recherches inédites sont en cours sur cette série de potins dite “au sanglier et au torque”. Si de nombreuses hypothèses quant à sa signification symbolique, l’aspect technique est tout aussi intéressant et les conclusions seront certainement très édifiantes et modifieront sans doute une part de nos connaissances sur ces monnaies coulées et plus précisément sur ces potins....

Suessiones (near Soissons)

(Second - first century BC)

The Suessiones were important people of the Belgians, stationed on the Aisne in the territory of the province of Soissons. They had to close the Remi, Lingones the Senonian, the Parisii, the Bellovaci and Ambiens. According to Caesar, the two peoples and Remi Suessiones before the Gallic War, had the same laws and the same leaders. They had to clients Meldi the Silvanectes and Viromanduens. In 51 BC, the members of the Belgian coalition would tackle first to Suessiones. Led by Correos Commios and the Belgian people were finally crushed by the Romans. Their main oppidum was Noviodunum (Soissons). Caesar (Bg. II, 3, 4, 12, 13, VI, 35, VII, 75, VIII, 6). Kruta: 69.
