He was born in Gottorp on May 14, 1710. Prince-Bishop of Lübeck, from 1727 to 1750, he was crowned King of Sweden in 1751. During the twenty years of his reign, power was assured by the Parliament of Finland and Sweden. He died in Stockholm on February 12, 1771.
