(1640-1643)

On December 16, 1640, the Catalans revolted against their suzerain, Philip IV of Spain (1621-1665), and called on the French to help them. Louis XIII takes the title of Count of Barcelona, the French invade Roussillon in September 1642 and take Perpignan on September 9.
