Exemplaire sous coque NGC AU58. Ce triens est frappé sur un flan large laissant apparaître entièrement les deux grènetis extérieurs. De qualité exceptionnelle, et d’une frappe vigoureuse, on distingue sur cet exemplaire les traces des lettres et des motifs en creux de l’autre côté. Curieuse patine de médaille aux reflets bleutés

SPAIN - VISIGOTHS - SISEBUT

Sisebut was elected king of the Visigoths in 612, after the death of Gundmar. His reign was marked by a Catholic intolerance characterized in particular by a persecution of the Jews. Conqueror, he submitted the Astures and the Vascons. He built up a fairly large fleet which went so far as to besiege Ceuta, then under Byzantine domination. He died assassinated in February 621, probably following a plot fomented by General Suintila.
