He is the son of Alfonso XI and Marie de Portugal and was born on August 30, 1334. He became king on March 26, 1350 when he was only fifteen years old. He died in Monteil on March 23, 1369. His political enemies gave him the nickname "Cruel" because of the numerous executions and assassinations he ordered, mainly affecting nobles or rebels. His supporters called him the vigilante. He died in Monteil on March 23, 1369.
