Obverse description : Leurs bustes accolés à droite en grand apparat, le Roi ayant la tête laurée. Signé : F. Gordillo.

Reverse description : Au centre, un autel portant sur une face les armoiries couronnées des époux et au dessus deux coeurs. Une religieuse sur la droite de l’autel, répand des fleurs sur les coeurs de la main droite et tient de la main gauche une grande croix posée sur son épaule. Sur la gauche de l’autel Cupidon tient le flambeau de l’Hymen. Une grosse couronne surplombe le tout. Signé à l’exergue : F. GORDILLO F. / M°.
Reverse translation : Liée par une alliance favorable et sainte.
Historical background
SPAIN - KINGDOM OF SPAIN - FERDINAND VII
(1808 then 1814-1833)
Son of Charles IV and Marie-Louise of Parma, he became king after the Aranjuez uprising which forced Charles IV to abdicate (March 19, 1808). After the occupation of Madrid by the troops of Murat, he had to renounce the throne on May 10, 1808. Interned until 1814, he returned and abolished the liberal Constitution of 1812. He could not prevent the collapse of the empire Spanish and the revolt of Riego in 1820 forced him to accept a liberal ministry and to restore the Constitution of 1812. In reality, he encouraged the royalist elements and thanks to the French expedition of the Duke of Angoulême, he was able to restore absolute power from 1823.
