Exemplaire bien centré sur un flan irrégulier. la croix du revers est apparente sur le buste à l’avers, en négatif. La pièce est couverte d’une patine grise homogène

Commentary


Les gros à ce type furent introduits dans le monnayage barcelonais sous Pierre II (1285-1291). Leur type n'est pas nouveau puisqu'il reprend celui des deniers frappés sous Jean Ier (1276-1285). Ces gros furent frappés sous plusieurs comtes de Barcelone.

(1291-05/11/1327)

Jacques II was born around 1260. He is the second son of Peter III of Aragon and Constance of Hohenstaufen. First king of Sicille from 1285 to 1291 under the name of Jacques I, he became king of Aragon and count of Barcelona in 1291 and left Sicille to his younger brother Frederick II. On November 1, 1295 he married Blanche d'Anjou. He died in Barcelona on November 5, 1327.
