Obverse description : Louis XVI debout à gauche, offrant à la Ville de Paris, inclinée et appuyée sur son écu, un groupe de vaches, dont une est emmenée par un laboureur. Signé DUPRE. F. [n°397].

Commentary


En 1785, une peste bovine ayant réduit le bétail de moitié, des vaches furent distribuées par décision royale. Dans la même année, un Comité d'agriculture est créé, composé entre autres de Lavoisier, Dupont de Nemours et la Rochefoucault - Liancourt.
Concernant cet exemplaire il est probable qu’il s’agit d’une frappe postérieure, Restauration, car le métal est inusuel l’époque et le coin de revers est fèlé.
