Historical background

SICILY - Selinunte

(520-490 BC)

Selinunte was, according to Montenegro, founded in 628 BC by colonists from Megara Hyblaea (Sicily), itself colony of Megara (Megara, Central Greece). The city was located on the southern coast of Sicily, at the mouth of Selinos River in the area of Carthaginian influence. Populated by Greeks and sicéliotes natives, the city owes its name to the sheet that adorns the right of its staters and still meets today in the wild in the territory of the city and resembles parsley.
