Exemplaire sur une petit flan mince et irrégulier, légèrement échancré à 7 heures, néanmoins bien centré. Beaux portraits. Revers énigmatique. Jolie patine vert foncé

Notre exemplaire est très proche de celui de la collection Laffaille, n° 197, repris dans l’ouvrage de Montenegro, p. 811, n° 4643.

SICILY - PANORMOS
(3rd - 1st century BC)
The city of Panorme was conquered by the Romans in 254 BC Besieged by Hadrusbal in 251 BC, Lucius Caecilius Metellus defeated the Carthaginians and seized their elephants. Hamilcar Barca did try to seize the city, but without success. At the end of the Second Punic War, Panorme became an important free city, an administrative and commercial capital. The city still played an important role under Sextus Pompey. In 20 BC, Augustus settled a Roman colony on his territory.
