Exemplaire sur un petit flan épais, légèrement décentré avec les grènetis visibles. Beau taureau. Joli revers de style fin. Belle patine vert foncé

Commentary


Tête large. C’est de loin le plus bel exemplaire que nous ayons présenté. Le style du portrait, d’essence classique a été réalisé par un grand graveur qui a aussi travaillé pour les monnaies d’argent. La chevelure est aérienne et offre une présence particulière à Gélas.

(Fifth century BC)

Gela was founded in 688 BC by colonists from Rhodes and Crete. Coinage began to 498 BC under the tyranny of Kleander (505-498 AC.) Or Hippocrates (498-491 AC.), Gelo (491/490-486/485 AC.)
